Islam has a vocabulary of its own. Here are the words you will meet along the journey — explained simply, for everyone.
The name Muslims prefer for the One supreme and unique God, who created and controls everything. A gender-neutral term — Allah is not in the image of any person.
The call to prayer. The one who calls it is the Muadhin (muezzin).
Way of life. Islam is a complete deen, not only a faith.
A rigorously and accurately compiled record of the sayings, actions and tacit approvals of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
The pilgrimage to the House of Allah in Makkah — one of the five pillars of Islam. The optional form is called Umrah.
Lawful, acceptable, permissible.
The opposite of halaal — unlawful, prohibited.
